Application Materials

I seek to build a team of ASL-English interpreters who reflect the diversity and growth opportunities of the field of sign language interpreting and the clients we work with. Your professional statement and work samples will used to evaluate your qualifications to join the team, and will be kept confidential.

1. Work Samples

Work samples are the best way for me to get to know your work. Please share two work samples, one from ASL to English and one from English to ASL.

Instructions:

  • Prep as you normally would for any assignment, but do not rehearse.
  • Create an interpretation video that includes both of the following.
    • The prompt: video only for ASL prompts; audio and video for English prompts.
    • Your interpretation: audio and video.
  • You may take a short amount of time to get used to the prompt before starting your interpretation. Each work sample should be 3 to 5 minutes in length.

I have compiled this list of prompts that I feel are indicative of the work I see most often. However, feel free to use any prompt that you are comfortable with.

Upload your English interpretation of an ASL prompt to YouTube, mark the video as "Unlisted," and paste the link above.

  • Previous work experience and its application to interpreting in academic, government, nonprofit, business, and other sectors.
  • Current goals in your career trajectory.

3. Resume

You may upload a resume, but this is optional. Your work samples and professional statement will likely carry more weight in our review.
